June 19, 2019. Lucca is the quintessential Italian town. It seems to be perfect in every conceivable way, and matches all our preconceptions of what it should be like to be in Italy. It is small, not at all overrun with tourists, and the weather has mostly been warm but perfect. We had a memorable meal in a small local restaurant in probably the most beautiful place we have ever had a meal. It cools off at night and in the morning, and perfect for a nice walk on the wall or dinner outdoors. Our pace has slowed to match the town and we are really enjoying this place. We have a nice Airbnb apartment that is equipped with the best possible amenity - air conditioning. The rest of the apartment is just right and well equipped. We are located very close to the wall in a quiet neighborhood, easy walking to anywhere. We wish we could have come here earlier and stayed for longer. If we ever get back to Italy we will stay here.
June 21, 2019. A little side trip, about a half hour on the train from Lucca is Pisa. Pretty much what you would expect, but the whole scene is a bit surreal. Something you have heard and read about your entire life is sitting right in front of you and it does look beautiful and very impressive and kind of leany. Glad we went.
June 23, 2019. Our last day in Lucca. There's much to see here. We have to come back. Our favorite little garden restaurant, the wall, the quiet.
