June4 24, 2019. I think I like Barcelona, at least as much as any large city we have been to. These first shots are from our hotel rooftop. No need to go a long way to get those photos.
June 25, 2019. Our first full day here and we just went exploring with no particular destination in mind. Our method seems to be; go wherever you want to go, get lost, find something new and different, figure out where you are, get lost again and repeat. The net result is we spend a LOT of time not knowing or caring where we are and still having a great time seeing all kinds of new things. The Gaudi building is just a few blocks from our hotel, which led us downtown and the Mercat de la Boqueria, which led us to the port of Barcelona, which led us to a funicular railway which took us up to Montjuic, the castle / fort on top of the hill and some cool views of the city.
June 26, 2019. We started the day by going to Gaudi's Sagrada Familia Cathedral, the epic and iconic building that he designed and started building in 1882. Gaudi died before seeing it finished. They are in the process of completing it and I'm not sure they will get that done any time soon. It is such a refreshing design for a European Church. I'm not an expert but I have seen a lot of European Churches lately.
We then went to Hospital Sant Pau, designed by another iconic, Spanish Art Nouveau Architect Lluís Domènech I Montaner. Amazing design also being restored and maintained.
June 28, 2019. Started out trying to go to Park Guell and found we needed tickets, so we'll be back. Went back downtown and another trip to the Mercat. I'm probably taking too many Mercat shots, but it is a sensory overload from the moment you step in. I can't help myself.
